Baltimore, MD - New Traffic Pattern at Northbound I-895/I-95 Merge.....
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, by 5 a.m., weather permitting, the
new bridge that merges trafficfrom northbound Interstate 895 onto northbound Interstate 95 is scheduled to open. In the event
of inclement weather, the bridge will open on Wednesday, Sept. 24, prior to morning rush hour.
Once the roadway opens, lanes on I-895 will be shifted to the right prior to the I-95 merge.
Vehicles will then enter I-95 from the right, rather than from the left as they do now.
Northbound I-95 at Moravia Road (Exit 60) and the ramp from northbound I-95 to eastbound US 40
(Pulaski Highway, Exit 61) will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23
for final line striping on I-95. The detour route will direct motorists from I-95 to Moravia Road, back to
I-895/I-95. Drivers who wish to access US 40
should take Moravia Road, turn right at Moravia ParkDrive and turn left onto US 40.
New Traffic Patterns
The new I-895 bridge is the second roadway/ramp opening this month as part of the I-95 Express Toll
Lanes
SM ( ETLsSM) Project. On Sept. 11, the ramp from northbound I-95 to eastbound I-695 opened totraffic. Other openings and traffic pattern changes occurring in the upcoming months include:
• Completion of the new general-purpose ramp from westbound I-695 tonorthbound I-95.
The entry point to access the I-695 ramp will be located prior to its current location, resulting in a
moderate change in the current traffic pattern.
• Opening of a new general-purpose ramp from northbound I-95 to westbound I-695.
This will result in a significant change to the current traffic pattern - traffic will exit from the right lane
of I-95 rather than the left lane, as it does now, and enter I-695 on the right.
• A significant traffic pattern change on northbound and southbound I-95, north of I-695
(between the Rossville Boulevard and Campbell Boulevard overpasses).
The current lanes will be shifted to the right approximately 60 feet in each direction.
• Completion of a new general-purpose ramp from southbound I-95 to eastbound I-695.
This
will result in a significant change to the current traffic pattern – traffic will exit onto I-695 fromthe right lane of I-95 rather than the left lane, as it does now, and will enter I-695 on the right.
The I-95 ETLs Project spans from the I-95/I-895 split in northeast Baltimore to just north of MD 43 in
White Marsh. It will result in a total of two new express toll lanes and four general-purpose lanes in
each direction, that are accommodated by bridge and interchange improvements. Motorists will have
the option of using the general-purpose lanes at no cost or paying a toll to use the express toll lanes,
which will be managed to maintain relatively congestion-free traffic flow.

Bridge updates...
The right lane of the Bay Bridge’s eastbound span will be closed continuously for up to the next ten
weeks as work begins to strengthen the parapets (or barriers) lining the side of the bridge.
During the right-lane closure, the posted speed limit on the eastbound span will drop to 40 mph at all
times. Two-way traffic will operate as needed on the westbound span to provide two eastbound travel lanes.
Also, trucks wider than 12 feet will be prohibited from traveling the bridge in the eastbound direction and must
use an alternate route. The restriction includes trucks that have been issued blanket permits. . For more information,
call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) or visit baybridge.com.
Preservation work has begun on the Thomas J. Hatem Bridge over the Susquehanna River on U.S. 40
between Perryville and Havre de Grace. The project is expected to take three years, and during this time,
commercial vehicles with more than three axles are not allowed to travel the bridge beteeen 6:00 a.m. and
10:00 p.m. daily, including weekends.
